However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky units of the rivals. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the only robot vacuum cleaner best vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than some of its premium rivals. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", Best Robot Hoover which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the home based on how dirty the areas are.

For larger homes it's worth looking for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house using the app or via voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Also, a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to organize an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for better performance. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
