Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

It's still a great deal particularly if your office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it when you're at work or going to school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for a wet one in minutes.

The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the sole robot vacuum that vacuums and mops vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite loud which could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.
