In a recent study, DCT responses to student inquiries via email were compared to those from an oral DCT. The results showed that DCTs preferred more direct and conventionally indirect request forms and utilized more hints than email data.
Metapragmatic Questionnaires (MQs)
This study examined Chinese learners' pragmatic choices when using Korean. They attributed their actions to learner-internal factors like their personalities and multilingual identities as well as ongoing lives. They also referred external factors, like relationship affordances. They described, for example, how their relationships with their professors allowed them to perform more comfortably in terms of the linguistic and social expectations of their university.
However, the interviewees expressed concern about the social pressures and consequences that they might be subjected to if they strayed from their local social norms.
