Examine your robot's brush regularly for tangled debris and hair. Clean them as needed. Some models will automatically empty their dust bin on board into a larger bin at the base, which reduces the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.
1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They feature motors that are top of the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. And, like other top iRobot models (including the top pick) they employ intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it detects an abundance of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned up quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our top option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.
It's still a good deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and operates when you're at work or in school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in minutes.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.
This highly efficient combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it also learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.
You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when it's in a carpeted room which prevents cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could sweep the entire house and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did a good job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds and cables.
It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically empties into its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba model than the bulky models from the rivals. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.
Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or in the evening when you are trying to sleep.
It's also quite expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it will cost you more and make more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than some of its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.
The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with the amount of dirt they tend to be.
If you have a larger home, it is worth selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. If you have lots of furniture, best robot Hoover a stairway mode is also useful. Also, a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you'd expect from its price tag. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots that vacuum and mop we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to guide you through the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
