The ability of the DCT in two or more stages to alter the social variables that are related to politeness could be a benefit. This characteristic can be utilized to study the effect of prosody in various cultural contexts.

In the field of linguistics the DCT is now one of the most important tools for analyzing learners' communication behaviors. It can also be used to determine the phonological complexity of learners' speech.

Recent research utilized an DCT as tool to evaluate the refusal skills of EFL students. This study examined Chinese learners' choices when it comes to using Korean using a variety of experimental tools, 프라그마틱 이미지 such as Discourse Completion Tasks (DCTs), metapragmatic questionnaires, and Refusal Interviews (RIs). Participants were 46 CLKs of upper-intermediate ability who provided responses to MQs and DCTs. They were also required to provide reflections on their assessments and refusals in RIs. The results revealed that CLKs are more likely to defy native Korean norms of pragmatism. Their decisions were influenced by four factors that included their personalities and multilingual identities, their ongoing life experiences, as well as their relationship affordances. The MQ data was first analyzed to identify the participants' actual choices. The data were classified according to Ishihara (2010)'s definition of pragmatic resistance.
